Vasilikos - Zakynthos
Vasilikos area is well known for the natural beauty and tranquillity and it is located on a peninsula in the South East of Zakynthos (Zante) island.
The characteristic of the area is the lush vegetation, which combines nicely with the amazing surrounding sandy beaches and the famous Gerakas Bay, the reproduction site for Caretta – Caretta sea turtles.
Vasilikos is a general area of Zakynthos (Zante) rather than a separate resort with many villages which are not densely populated.
Some of the most beautiful beaches in the whole Ionian Islands are located right under high mountain’s slops, on both peninsula’s sides.
Shops
Vasilikos, although is a very quiet resort, offers any possible convenience, i.e. restaurants, tavernas, bars, mini markets and shops spread all around the place .
Accommodation
In addition it offers a large range of luxury-class hotels, studios, apartments, bungalows and even traditional stone-built houses, which can only promise a very relaxed and high quality holiday.
Transportation
There is a regular bus service to / from the town of Zakynthos (Zante). In alternative someone might also hire a rental car or jeep, a motorcycle or bicycle. Finally, there is a taxi station on the main road, at St. Nicholas turn.
The restaurants
Assorted tavernas and restaurants for all the tastes can be found along the main road, but also at any of the adjacent beaches, offering wonderful dinners in scenic spots with live music and Greek dances.
The beaches
The amazing thing about Vasilikos is that someone can have a swim at a different beach every day! Dafni, Kaminia, Porto Zoro, Ionio, Banana, St. Nicholas, Porto Roma and mainly Gerakas are some of the most famous beaches in the Ioanian islands.
Wonderful, golden beaches with clear, shallow waters provide a great variety of scuba diving adventures, sea-skiing, ringos, sea-bikes, although some of the water sports are not allowed at some of the beaches, in order to protect Caretta – Caretta sea turtles, as turtles’ reproduction time coincides with the summer holiday. During July and August, the female turtles come ashore to bury their eggs in the sand. The warm sand causes the eggs to hatch and the baby turtles emerge 8 weeks later, immediately heading to the moonlit sea.
Night-life
There are quite a few quality bars in Vasilikos area, which are offering various events in the summer nights..
Some of them give the opportunity to anyone to combine his dinner with an authentic Greek evening of Zakynthian songs and dances.
